Join us for an artist talk and book signing with Louise Saxton. Louise Saxton is an Australian artist living and working in Melbourne. For the past twenty years, her practice has centred on reconstructing detritus from the home, including the re-use of her own paintings, collections of everyday business envelopes and vintage wallpapers, book illustrations, domestic porcelain and discarded needlework. In 2018, Town Hall Gallery presented ‘Louise Saxton: The Linen Project’, a solo exhibition featuring unique two and three-dimensional assemblages the artist created from discarded and disinherited domestic linens, celebrating the materiality of linen and its role in caring for family and community. Louise has self-published 'LOUISE SAXTON cut & pinned’ a monograph reflecting the artist’s two decades collecting, reclaiming and re-imagining discarded needlework. Available now from the Boroondara Arts Shop, ‘LOUISE SAXTON cut & pinned’ features installation photographs from ‘Louise Saxton: The Linen Project’, including a work that has been acquired into the Town Hall Gallery Collection. Louise will be available after the talk to sign copies of her monograph. This event is free, however bookings are essential. |
